Silent Servant

by Bob Hazlett

I suspect you do not know and cannot spell my name, nor that I am 7 feet 1 inch long, 2 feet 6 inches wide, and 2 feet high. Many thousands of you have seen me but yet have not for I am dressed in black and always silent.

I took up my duties in April of 1865 and have been called on thirty-three times since then. I proudly and quietly serve in your hours of deepest grief, holding your cherished heroes while you mourn. I am The Lincoln Catafalque.
